This train will be an alternative to Germany’s current trains, which run on diesel. It runs off a hydrogen fuel tank on its roof. This fuel powers a fuel cell that generates electricity for the trains to run on. This also makes the train much quieter than its diesel counterparts. Even when it reaches its’ max speed of 87 miles per hour, the only sound that should be able to be heard is the sound of air resistance.
Part of the push to reduce greenhouse gases from transportation, this train will be the first to carry passengers along the railway. The train is reportedly more expensive than existing diesel models, but ecofriendlyness is the main concern of countries investing in this train. Besides Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway are asking to bring the train to their rails.
