Malaysia is developing Forest City, a development scheduled to become Southeast Asia’s largest mixed green development, and the world’s largest green roof system. This building plan is being made by Sasaki Associated for $40.9 billion.
The development will mimic the natural coastal ecosystem of Malaysia, located near the economic centers of Southeast Asia. The design is made so it will not affect the area’s ecosystem or the fishing industry. It will protect nine kilometers of mangroves, 10 kilometers of shallow coves, and 250 hectares of shallow-water sea grass.
It will feature many sustainable strategies to keep it ecofriendly, such as a rooftop network of parks and gardens, as well as pedestrian-friendly spaces, natural habitats, and storm water filtering systems. The design of the buildings themselves is to combine iconic architecture with sustainable design principles.
