Causes Of Global Warming
The most reasonable explanation for Global Warming is Greenhouse Gases. They are emitted by humans through many different daily activities for us in the modern age. Several different gases make up Greenhouse Gases, but the most common is Carbon Dioxide.
Greenhouse Gases are emitted when we run our cars. The combustion of the gasoline creates pollution, which is made of Carbon Dioxide. When factories run, they release Carbon Dioxide. The other most common reason is electricity production. This causes some of the most emissions of Carbon Dioxide, and can be the easiest to fix. We still have problems convincing people that we CAN change these problems through simple changes of the way we produce electricity.
But how is electricity produced that it does this to the environment? Well a source of fuel is harnessed to create energy. There are many types of fuels that can be used. Currently, the most common is fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas. These are the types of fuels that emit the most Carbon Dioxide. Other types of fuel consist of Alternatives such as solar power, wind power, and hydroelectricity. These don’t emit as much Carbon Dioxide, but many people have problems with their reliability.
The fuel is burned to produce steam to turn a turbine. This is where the processes may vary for different types of energy. For now, let’s follow coal since it is the leading source of our problem. We will talk more about the other types of energies later. Through towers in the power plants, the gas that the coal produced while burning spins a turbine and then leaves into our atmosphere. This is when the Carbon Dioxide escapes into the air.
When the turbine revolves, it also spins a rod connected to a magnet in a generator. This magnet is surrounded by coils of wire. The reaction of the magnet spinning in the wires creates electricity. From there, wires pick up the electricity.
These wires carry electricity through to a transformer that increases the volts of the electricity. They can get as powerful as 500,000 volts of electricity. It needs to be this high of a power so it doesn’t lose its charge as it travels to your home. The electricity travels through the grid to transformers located near where the power is needed. At these local transformers, voltage is decreased to 110-220 volts, which is safe for usage.
To enter a house, electricity travels through a meter that measures how much electricity you use. A control panel inside your house will distribute the power through wires in the walls. This goes to the switches and outlets you use to power appliances and lights. Electricity is produced so easily that with a flick of a switch, you have artificial lighting in your house or you can run your appliances.
Now, it’s not like the United States is the only country that needs to decrease its Carbon Dioxide emissions. It is only second on the list of countries that release the most Carbon Dioxide emissions. We are right behind China. In order to change the way the Earth is heading, we all need to work on decreasing our emissions. Here's where we are in Total Carbon Emissions From Consumption of Energy.

Electricity is the source of energy for the United States that powers houses, businesses, industry, and almost any kind of building on the continent. We use it so often that it has to be produced a lot. This means a lot of Carbon Dioxide is being put into the air. The sad part is, our natural Carbon Dioxide recyclers — plants — can’t keep up with how much Carbon Dioxide we put into the air. Normally, through the process of photosynthesis, plants would take in the Carbon Dioxide, and in return they would give us the Oxygen we need to breathe. However, with the mass production of Carbon Dioxide, they can’t even keep up.
The combustion of fuels during the process of making electricity is responsible for 37% of the United States’ Carbon Dioxide emissions. Different types of fuels create different amounts of Carbon Dioxide emissions. Right now the most popular type of fuel, coal, produces more electricity than even oil or natural gas.
Based off of this chart, it is quite obvious that the world releases too much Carbon Dioxide. The world is obviously heating, no matter how much people wish to disagree. If we don’t try to slow Global Warming, the world could become a completely different place than we know today. If we change the way the Earth is going, it could also become a much better place.
